Delivering the Perfect Gift

Friday, November 20th, 2009

CEIVA Perfect GiftLet’s face it; it’s that time of year when one can go a little crazy trying to find that ONE special gift for a special person that is just… well, just perfect. While most of us, at some point in our lives, have been on the receiving end of what we know was the perfect gift, many of us still fail to deliver on what we thought would be a perfect gift.

Why, do we often fall short when it comes to giving what we’d hope was a perfect gift? Well, to answer that question let’s look at what makes the perfect gift “perfect”. First, not only does the perfect gift need to be both useful and meaningful to the recipient; but let’s be realistic, it also has to fit into your gift giving budget. But more importantly, what truly really makes a gift perfect is the fact that it touches a recipient in a profound way. A perfect gift will take into consideration and honor the lifestyle, interests, and needs of the recipient, yet connect on a deeper level than other gifts.

So with that being said, you might be surprised to read that I believe that the typical digital picture frame is NOT the perfect gift… unless you take the time to personalize it so that it connects on a deeper level. A digital frame is just the means of delivery, not the gift. The gift is, as KODAK once said, “the moments of our lives” that are shared and displayed on the frame.

How do you personalize the gift of a digital frame? Well, that’s easy. When you first give a digital frame have it “loaded” ready to display photos that are meaningful to the recipient. However, be aware that digital frames are not like traditional frames that hold a single print. Most (not all) digital frames, usually end up showing the same pictures over and over again. Digital frames can quickly become stale energy sucking lumps of plastic, glass and metal if not updated. Over time, that gift you wanted to be personal over time just becomes annoying.

However, one type of digital frame, known as a “connected” frame, will remotely access new photos and ultimately deliver the perfect gift of fresh new photos for years to come.

Connected frames, such ones made by CEIVA, receive photos sent directly to them from any computer or standard camera phone. Plus, while CEIVA’s can directly connect to a computer via WiFi, these digital frames do NOT have to receive photos in this way. CEIVA frames also receive photos through a traditional phone land-line or Ethernet connection. (Land-line connectivity makes CEIVA frames ideal for seniors and less tech savvy people that do not have a computer or the Internet.)

Regardless of the type of connection used, these unique frames ultimately access CEIVA’s photo hosting and delivery service, known as Picture Plan. Picture Plan makes photo storing, sharing and editing an easy, safe and secure process. It also provides frame owners a way to invite family and friends in to send and share their pictures to the frame. The fact that CEIVA frames can have fresh new photos delivered right to them from loved ones keeps that personal connection alive and ultimately makes them a perfect gift.

Select any photo on your iPhone and send it straight to your CEIVA frame with CEIVA Snap

iPhones are all the rage. With what seems to be hundreds of new Apps being released each day its no wonder these phones are so popular.

We here at CEIVA love the iPhone. Its design and simplicity, like so many Apple products, is an inspiration to us.

So when we can build bridges between our products and Apple’s, we do so without hesitations.

Take a look at CEIVA Snap, our iPhone “bridge” application that lets you snap pictures and then instantly and directly send them to your own frame or CEIVA frames owned by your friends and family.

The CEIVA Snap app, which is FREE, allows you to take a picture from right within the app and then send to any CEIVA digital photo frame you have access to or to any album you have set up on your CEIVA account.  A copy of the picture, taken through CEIVA Snap, will still reside in your iPhone too… just in case you want to show on the go.

Taking and sharing pictures using cell phones just got easier. In fact, CEIVA’s iPhone app is so easy you might say that it’s a… “CEIVA Snap.”

Fingerprints on Your Frame…Shame on You

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

These days there’s a lot of talk about digital frames with touch-screen menus.

Fingerprints on your favorite photos is no way to enjoy them

Here’s the one fundamental problem with touch-screen frames: They’re a lot like stainless steel appliances — they seem great until you realize they show every fingerprint. With a touch-screen frame, you’ll touch the display over and over again in order to use the menu, which means you’ll have dozens of fingerprints on your frame.

Would you put your fingerprints all over the surface of a printed photo? Of course not and for good reason—it wrecks the photo and your ability to enjoy it. You would hold a photo from the edges to keep it smudge-free. So if you’ve got a digital frame with a touch-screen menu and you want to enjoy your photos free of fingerprints, you’ll have to clean the display all the time. We think that’s a big hassle.

We also understand that over time some touch-screens lose sensitivity to your touch, making it more and more and difficult to navigate. That’s why we offer either easy-to-use remote controls or on-frame buttons that won’t put messy fingerprints all over your pictures.

Some Digtal Frames Are Freakish Distortions… 4:3 Aspect Ratio Matters

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Now you may be wondering, “What on earth is 4:3?” Don’t worry—we’re not asking you to do any math.

4:3 is the most common aspect image viewing ratio of photography. Unless you have an “odd” camera it is your cameras image ratio. It is an INDUSTRY STANDARD used by the vast majority of digital cameras. So if your camera is  offering picture sizes like 1280×960, 1800×1200, and 2048×1536… then it is a 4:3 ratio camera.  So if you want your digital photos displayed on your digital frame without any STEEEEEEERECHED distortion, you’ll want a digital picture frame that also offers 4:3.

While it is not standard for many digital frames on the market display in the 16:9 ratio, which means they WILL distort your photos.

Most photos are taken at 4:3 ratio, so your digital photo frame should display them that way, too.

Most photos are taken at 4:3 ratio, so your digital photo frame should display them that way, too.

To make sure your photos are displayed properly CEIVA offers  8-Inch Digital Photo Frames™ that have the 4:3 aspect ratio. We guarantee  which means that your photos are displayed perfectly. That’s our True-to-Photo™ image technology at work. If you load your photos onto other frames that don’t feature 4:3, your photos will appear stretched out, cropped off or awkwardly squished.

We think you should enjoy your photos just as you took them—without any distortion.
